Police officer Anthony Durkin might be saying goodbye to Canowindra career-wise, but he's not cutting his ties completely.
Since first being stationed in the town five years ago, he and his family have grown to like it so much, they plan to stay living right here and are in the final process of building a home.
This month, Senior Constable Durkin will officially wind up his duties at the Canowindra station and will soon take up a new General Duties policing position at Orange, after a short break.
A farewell barbeque will be hosted for him at the Canowindra Bowling Club on September 5 and the entire community is invited. Contact Toby or Matt at Belubula Butchers to organise and confirm catering.
Senior Constable Durkin said he is looking forward to the new challenges at the Orange station, while enjoying the lessons learnt at Canowindra, thanking the public throughout his tenure here.
"The community has been really behind me all the way, which has made the job very enjoyable," Senior Constable Durkin said.
"That kind of support is rare in policing and very much appreciated by me."
A replacement for Senior Constable Durkin has yet to be finalised.
