Here’s a unique chance to hide away some treasured history and bring it back to life again in 25 years time for all to enjoy.
The Canowindra Rotary Club in conjunction with the Historical Society is organising the
burial of a Time Capsule later this year.
“We plan on burying the capsule late in the year - around December - which gives people time to get their items together,” said Canowindra Rotary Club member, John Newman.
So when family and friends arrive in town for the Centenary of Federation celebrations, take the time to dig out some photos, records, mementoes, personal and family items and set them aside for the capsule.
Individual boxes, roughly around the size of a lunch box will be available for $10 each and can be purchased at the Canowindra Newsagency or at street stalls during the Back to Canowindra celebrations.
If you’re stuck for ideas as to what to include in the capsule, “one good idea are your ideas and predictions on how you think the future will be in 25 years time,” Mr Newman said.
Other goods ideas include bank statements, receipts and wage slips - anything that makes a record of our time in the year 2001.
Due to the construction of the outer container and the sealing of the individual inner boxes with sillicant, Mr Newman said that there is every reason to believe that all items will be preserved during their time underground.
The capsule will be buried in the grounds of the Historical Museum and the Pioneers Wall, coming back to the surface in the Year 2026.
