Red Shield Appeal collectors don’t have to be bound by a strict time or date.
That’s the message from Canowindra Red Shield Zone Director Captain Pauline Staples, who is currently preparing for the local involvement in the National Red Shield Appeal Doorknock on the weekend of May 24 and 25.
The Salvos are still seeking collectors and Ms Staples stressed potential volunteers can, with prior arrangement, collect at a time or date convenient for themselves.
“We are happy to fit in with what they are able to do,” Captain Staples said.
“If they can do an area where they are living but they can’t make it in that weekend, we can organise a time to fit.”
“We’re all in this together.”
The Salvos need to reach a national doorknock goal of 8 million dollars just to maintain services in the year ahead.
The overall Red Shield Appeal, which includes a business appeal and direct mail campaign, has a national target of 68 million dollars.
“The recent interest rate rises and higher petrol prices are putting increased pressure on families and individuals,” said Sydney Appeal Director Major Paul Kinder.
“Many farmers are still suffering from the effects of the long drought, while other communities are recovering from the devastation caused by recent floods. Many young people are fighting addiction and homelessness.”
To donate to The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal or to volunteer to be a Canowindra area collector for the doorknock weekend on 24 and 25 May, phone Moyne on 6344 1475, which can initially
