It was a quick promotion for Canowindra High school student, Erin Nash when she slipped into the chair of the state's schools Deputy Director-General last Wednesday.
The Year 11 student traveled to Sydney to the Department of Education and Training's Bridge Street headquarters where she shadowed Trevor Fletcher as he carried out his duties overseeing more than 2000 public schools across the state.
For a day Erin shared responsibility for the education of around 3/4 million students in the largest education network in Australia and one of the largest education systems in the world.
Erin earned her place as a Deputy Director-General as a runner-up in the Director-General-for-a-Day program that is aimed at encouraging school students to aspire to leadership in their future careers.
The successful initiative has become a regular feature of Education Week.
The reviewing committee has praised the high standard of expressions of interest from Erin and the other applicants for this year's program.
As well as sharing in Mr Fletcher's busy agenda of duties, Erin had the chance to join the reception for participants in the Principal-for-the-Day in the William Wilkins Gallery.
This brought together a range of leaders and personalities from industry, commerce, media and sporting, most of whom are themselves graduates of NSW public schools, who have shadowed principals in metropolitan public schools.
