Brainchild comes to life for group

Coffs Harbour may be famous for the big Banana and Nambour up north is home to the Big Pineapple but on Thursday last week Canowindra stamped its 'big' mark on Australia when they unveiled the Big Brain at the Moorbel Hall.

It took six members of the Central West Brain Injury Action Group three weeks to create the masterpiece, and after the series of Arts OutWest's Celebrate Ability Installation Workshops, it's creators felt a sense of fulfilment.

The project coordinator Ken Hutchinson said the Big Brain measures 900mm x 600mm x 600mm and was the brainchild of the members of the Injury Action Group.

"These guys came together to participate in a series of workshops, and when I asked them what they wanted to create they said "why not a brain?"

"It was a great idea and everyone was able to work on one piece of the brain, which came together to make a whole on Thursday".

"Each of the artists was also able to carve onto the brain where their injury occurred, which has been quite therapeutic".

The Big Brain will be transported to Victoria for the regional arts disability festival that will be held in mid October. Funding for the project came from Regional Arts NSW.
