Canowindra catch up for Idol friends

28 Mar, 2007 08:00 AM
Not one but two Australian Idol finalists will hit the stage in Canowindra next month.

Months after the whirlwind of Australia's most famous talent show, Lisa Mitchell and Raechel Lee will join forces to sing, explore, write and perform in a few quiet gigs around the central west.

Lisa and Raechel and became fast friends during the whole Australian

Idol experience.

And Canowindra is one of those very places picked by the two to catch up on their lives since Australian Idol last year.

"Lisa and I were very close during the competition and we always said that once it was over we'd do some shows together so if you wanna catch her on her first tour since leaving Idol, this is the time to do it," Raechel said.

Rachael is no stranger to Canowindra.

Her family band, The Lees, has played several times at the Canowindra Services Club over the past couple of years, and current manager Grant Cummings is hoping for a popular response to the latest booking.

"We think it will be pretty big," Mr Cummings said.

"Its not often you have two finalists from Australian Idol playing in a small country town like Canowindra."

The Lees began around 11 years ago, by doing small shows around NSW in the school holidays and any other spare time they had. Within years, they developed into a full time travelling family band.

From Tamworth, to Broken Hill, to a trip to the American home of country in Nashville, Tennessee, The Lees have developed a strong reputation with their involvement in Australian country music.

Before Lisa Mitchell was wowing judges on television show Australian Idol, the Albury Scots School student was studying Year 10.

Since taking guitar lessons at age of 12, Lisa has pursued her dream of becoming a professional musician, using the inspiration of Australian artists like Missy Higgins and Clare Bowditch as she carved her own sound.

Lisa Mitchell and Raechel Lee will be back on stage next month as they play the Canowindra Services Club on Saturday, April 14.
