Canowindra - along with other central west centres such as Bathurst, Orange, Molong, Blayney and Oberon - will join the newly expanded Essential Energy south eastern region.
A restructure of Essential Energy has seen Bathurst lose its status as a regional corporate headquarters to Queanbeyan.
Eight regions have now been consolidated into five.
The central west centres will join Boorowa, Crookwell, Yass, Goulburn, Gundagai, Tumut, Braidwood, Tumbarumba, Moruya, Cooma, Jindabyne, Bega and Bombala in the new region.
The other four regions are north coast, northern, southern and far west.
The regional model had been at the core of Essential Energy’s presence in regional NSW since its formation and remains a core part of the energy provider’s plans for the future.
“To drive consistency in our regional operations, and to ensure we’re able to deliver cost effective essential services to our network customers, the eight existing regions were consolidated into five,” south eastern regional general manager Phillip Green said.
“It’s important to note that the changes did not remove frontline positions from regional areas and the majority of employees in the region were not affected.”
