Cargo youth awarded Youth of the Month title

The Youth of the Month for February is Stephen Maere of Cargo.

Stephen Maere has just completed his Higher School Certificate at Canowindra High School where he was the School Captain in 2005.

Stephen has been the recipient of awards from his school and various sporting bodies applauding his outstanding personal achievements, his mature attitude and his ability to encourage others to achieve their personal best.

He has achieved an extraordinary level of excellence in a variety of sporting endeavours throughout his life so far.

Sporting Achievements

· Achieved State level in Athletics during his Primary School years

· Cross Country Champion for 3 consecutive years, 2000,2001,2002 and also went on to receive the highest honour in school sport in Canowindra High School in 2003 and 2004

· Received the Central Western Districts sports awards for Basketball in 2002, Hockey in 2003 and Touch Football in 2004.

· Invited by the Western Region Academy of Sport to participate in the Australian Sports Commission Talent Search and was awarded a Certificate of Top Performance.

· Has been honoured for his discipline and sportsmanship in a variety of sporting endeavours including touch football where he was chosen as the 'A' grade Best & Fairest in both the 2003/2004 & 2004/2005 seasons.

· Awarded the Captains choice and Top Try Scorer in the 2004/2005 season.

· Has shown tremendous promise on the golf course and has been awarded Junior of the Year in the Canowindra Open Golf Competition for three consecutive years, 2001 - 2003.

· Won the Murray Cup in 2001 & 2002 and was the winner of 'B' grade 19 hole handicap and also winner of the 27 hole stroke and was named Best Junior.

· Won the 'C' grade Club Champion in 2003 and was also the winner of the Darryl Kearns Memorial Best Junior Golfer Award.

· Won the 'B' grade 2 person Ambrose Championship in 2004.

· Had a successful season with the Cowra Magpies rugby league team in 2005.

Stephen's teachers, coaches and his community all agree that he is not only an outstanding sportsman, but a real leader to his peers. He has assisted in supervisory roles as an assistant referee for soccer and also as a former tutor with the CPS Intensive Swimming School. Stephen is hoping to pursue a career in the sports field and we wish him the best of luck in his pursuit.
