On Sunday the 4th of May, Canowindra will again host some of Australia’s finest young musicians, when students and
graduates of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music play at All Saints’ Church as part of their “Great Western Tour” of NSW.
The performers include the “Nexas” Saxophone Quartet, which was formed in 2002 by Sydney Conservatorium of Music students Ben Carey, Andrew Smith, Nathan Henshaw and Jay Byrnes. The group has studied at the European University in France, and has toured widely, and recite works from Dvorak, Piazzolla and Gershwin to some jazz and light classical.
This concert is the sixth to be organised by Richard Statham of Rosnay Organic Wines, Canowindra. The All Saints Church is once again the venue, with some of the best acoustics in the region for this sort of concert.
“We are again honoured to present these magnificent young musicians to the Cowra and Canowindra community, and we thank the generous support of the Royal Hotel for providing accommodation, “taste canowindra” for providing nourishment, and X-Crew Productions for staging and recording this special event”, Richard said.
“We also look forward to wrapping up a fantastic day with a sumptuous dinner and glass of Rosnay wine in the company of the musicians at “taste Canowindra”, on the Sunday night. Please join us.”, Richard said.
Tickets are just $20 or $15 concession, or $50 with dinner (RSVP 30 April), and can be purchased from Jeanette’s Inspiration or RSVP direct to Rosnay on 6344 3215 for pickup at the door.

The Nexas Saxophone Quartet was formed in 2002 by Australian Saxophonists Jay Byrnes, Nathan Henshaw, Andrew Smith and Ben Carey.
Nexas has done many tours throughout Australia and Europe performing works not only by standard
composers but new and upcoming Australian composers.
The Nexas Saxophone Quartet were members of the Sydney Eclectic Composers Society (SECS) with whom they did many world premiere performances and had numerous works dedicated to them.
In 2003 Nexas were the winners of the Wal Hardwick memorial scholarship, allowing them to travel to Europe and study with great french educators such as Claude Delangle, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Jean-Denis Michat and others. Whilst in France Nexas did a series of
concerts performing standard quartet repertoire as well as Australian Premieres.
In 2005 Nexas worked with the PACT theatre in a production of Troy an opportunity for them to work in a new and unusual environment.
The Nexas Saxophone Quartet took a break in June 2005 through to June 2006 when members moved to
different parts of the world to endeavour on solo paths but it reformed July 06 in Europe to continue their work of exploring new repertoire and entertaining the public.
