The bottom half of his factory at Canowindra Motors is packed full with over 20 bygone Holdens, each specifically collected by Mr McCarron.

There's a Monaro, a FX Ute and even an old Torana signed by Peter Brock.

But of all the cars and sentiments lying dormant amongst the dust of the garage, one seems to shine that little bit brighter: his black1948 48-215.

Car lovers may have seen it recently in Just Cars or Unique Cars magazine, and ladies could have flicked past it in New Idea, because this car has recently found fame for being, according to Mr McCarron, the world's oldest registered Holden.

Only 163 cars were made in this model in 1948, and it is believed that only six are still around.

Mr McCarron bought his in 1970 in South Australia, and with only 21,000 miles on the speedo, it remains quite valuable.

"What makes it even more special is the fact that it hasn't been restored; it's in its original condition," Mr McCarron said, which very few other Holden FX owners can claim.

"Besides a coat of paint and some new carpet, it is totally original."

The 59-year-old car is rarely driven any more, although completely roadworthy, and Mr McCarron has hopes to sell his entire collection when the time is right.

"Someone will come along and understand what I have here. They will appreciate it the way I do," he said.

When the black beauty is out on the road however, the driver must be careful, because the car itself has no side indicators; a detail that NSW State registration law didn't force McCarron to fix because of the car's

age.
