Each year National Science Week celebrates the achievements of Australian Researchers and science teachers.

Many events are held throughout Australia to encourage young and old to participate in science based activities, and Canowindra's Age of Fishes Museum was one of those to host such an event.

This year the Age Of Fishes Museum held National Science Week digs and geology tours of the Museum for students.

The tours and digs were co-ordinated by Monica Yeung, a Board member of the Age Of Fishes Museum and owner of Gondwana Dreaming Pty Ltd, a Canberra company who specialise in earth science tours.

With the assistance of staff and volunteers from the Age Of Fishes Museum Monica was able to work with over 45 school students from the Central West.

"The students were taken on a tour of the Museum and completed worksheets before being taught how to make a cast of a fossil. After lunch the group headed out to the dig site where they were shown how to use equipment and some students were lucky enough to find a part specimen," Monica said.

"Overall I think the children and their teachers really enjoyed the day - they were absolutely fascinated especially at the dig site."
