For all those people who want to have fun and improve their fitness, summer is here again which means the start of aquatherapy classes.
According to physiotherapist Sue Johnson, exercises in the water are easier to do and less stressful on the joints.
“The aquatherapy classes over the past number of years have been a lot of fun, and participants felt their fitness and energy levels improved,” she said.
“There is increasing evidence about the benefits of physical activity.”
Exercising regularly reduces the risk of heart disease and strokes, improves muscle strength and balance, and helps with weight control, diabetes and high blood pressure.
It also makes you feel good.
“These classes are a good way to start or to provide variety if you already exercise regularly,” Sue said.
The aquatherapy classes will be held for the first three weeks on Mondays from 3pm to 4pm at Canowindra Pool, starting on November 19.
The time will change to 9am to 10am from December 10.
The hour-long sessions involve walking in the water, specific exercises for each joint, aerobic exercises and cool down stretches, all to music.
The classes are for adult men and women and all newcomers are welcome to attend.
You do not need to be able to swim to take part in aquatherapy classes.
The cost is $2 for pool entry or $85 for a single season ticket.
Tea and coffee are provided afterwards by the caretakers of the pool.
