Entries down but crowd up

27 Sep, 2006 07:56 AM
Despite the worst fears of this year's Canowindra Show executive, crowd numbers and alcohol sale profits were up substantially after the 105th event on Friday and Saturday.

Canowindra P A and H Executive member Graham Rice said while show entry figures were down and affected by drought, gate entry figures and takings from the bar were on the rise.

He believed the addition of the Sports Shear competition was one factor behind higher attendance, of this year's event, both in regards to spectators and the competitors.

"The gate takings were up by over 1,000 people and the bar was by $700," Mr Rice said.

"Entries however, were seriously down, which you expect after so many years of drought conditions. Fodder, livestock, etc were all lower than normal."

Georgie Wythes won this year's title of Miss Canowindra Showgirl, and will now have the opportunity to represent the Canowindra at Zone judging in Forbes and February 2006.
