EUGOWRA NEWS & VIEWS
with Judy Smith
There was great excitement at Eugowra Public School on Wednesday morning with the visit of four high profile members of the City team along with the ARL Development Officer, Brad Donald.
Braith Anasta, Robbie Farrer, Jason King and Luke Rooney are members of the City Rugby League team who have been based in Parkes during the week in the lead up to the annual Country v City game, which was held in Dubbo last night.
The students and staff from Eugowra Public were joined by the pupils and staff from St. Joseph's and three students from Bedgerebong in making the City team players welcome.
The morning commenced with a question and answer time in the classroom where the obliging players fielded questions from the students. As each question was asked the players took turns in answering the same question.
Braith Anasta who plays 5/8 for the Sydney City Roosters, Jason King a prop for the Manly Sea Eagles, Luke Rooney winger for the Penrith Panthers and Robbie Farrer hooker for West Tigers all have similar training programmes and are all of course full time professional footballers.
In answer to one question, they are all looking to life beyond rugby league, where they are doing courses, or thinking about doing so, to prepare them for their life in future years.
Questions from the students revolved around training, weights, food, positions played, rep games as juniors, injuries, spare time pursuits, blood bin, spear tackles, what they earned from football (not answered) the best things about being a professional footballer etc.
Playing golf was Braith Anasta's spare time pursuit while Jason King enjoys fishing.
The students weren't the only ones who enjoyed the visit from these fine young sportsmen as all the female teachers and young mothers, (as well as other visitors to the school) all lined up for photos.
Following the question and answer time the players then willingly signed posters and every thing imaginable before lining up for photos with one and all.
Then it was out on to the oval for a coaching clinic.
This was a very exciting morning for
students and one not to be forgotten in a hurry.
