Event to benefit entire region

21 Feb, 2007 07:49 AM
Canowindra residents are being asked to support a team converging with plans to pitch Cowra as the site for Triple J's annual One Night Stand competition.

Thanks to the national radio station, the competition brings some of Australia's biggest music names for free to a regional town and this year the headline act is Silverchair.

A petition supporting the Cowra push can be signed at Federation Fotos in Gaskill Street.

Rachael Ferguson of Cowra Tourism says holding the concert in Cowra gives the youth of Canowindra the opportunity to attend.

"This is a free concert that the whole district can join in on, not just Cowra," Ms Ferguson said.

"We hope that the people of Canowindra, Grenfell, Young, Bathurst and Orange and all points in between will support our application and can attend," Ms Ferguson said.

Essential to the entry is permission and support from the local council; securing a venue for Friday April 20; organising a petition and than taking a photo of Triple J presenter Myf Warhurst on a tour of the town and creatively photographing her at favourite sites and with local characters.

Entries close on Friday March 9, 2007, and the winner is announced on Friday March 16, 2007.

Petitions supporting the event are also circulating in Cowra, Bathurst, Young Grenfell and Orange.

This year's free concert will be held on Friday, April 20 and feature Silverchair, Midnight Juggernauts, Behind Crimson Eyes and the Funktrust, plus a local band.
