Peter Ryan says he is not the type you would expect to see training for a half marathon competition; but he has his reasons.
Mr Ryan - well known in the Cowra and Canowindra area - is training to compete in Blackmore’s Sydney running festival to raise money for cancer research, and is calling on the public for sponsorship.
He wishes to complete the $10, 000 fundraising goal his daughter Debbie aimed to achieve before losing her own battle with breast cancer.
“I need sponsors and plenty of them to get me over the line with the fundraising goal and to give me encouragement to |complete the half marathon. While I understand why people must be realistic about their ability to sponsor, I can only ask you to give
generously but realistically” he says.
Once a regular morning walker, Mr Ryan is now running up to 12 kilometres twice a week, and says he can be seen out on a Sunday and Wednesday morning in his bright orange shirt.
His daughter raised almost $5000 dollars for CanToo, a not for profit cancer research organisation and Peter is set to complete the amount with the same organization.
Anyone is able to sponsor Peter in his marathon goal, simply by going on to www.cantoo.org.au , click on the Sponsors section type in Ryan, find Peter Ryan’s name and the rest goes from there.
Any donations made are tax deductible from $2 upward.
Mr Ryan will compete in the Blackmore Sydney running festival on September 19.
