Canowindra High School students got a head start on the benefits of volunteering this month, assisting a local community organisation while gaining valuable skills for possible careers in the future.
At last count, 4.4 million Australians were involved in volunteering.
Last Monday, boys from Canowindra High School's Year 10 Food Technology class joined these statistics, volunteering to serve at the Red Cross Luncheon held at the The Canowindra Bowling Club.
The boys, Kane Trayhurn, Kyle Hutchings, Alex Myers and Kieran Upton, together with Food Technology teacher Kevin Smyth were praised by the clients.
"We could not have managed as well without the help of the boys. It was great to be able to sit back and enjoy our lunch," one of them said.
Their efforts earned them high praise and thanks from Canowindra Red Cross President, Muriel Yell.
"They were polite, charming and an absolute delight and added greatly to the enjoyment of our guests.
"These young men from Year 10, accompanied by their teacher, assisted in the serving of nearly 100 hot meals to the guests."
