Golden Plough event recreates a bygone era

The Australian Draught Horse Association- Western Branch, organisers of the 32nd Golden Plough, were rewarded with brilliant weather conditions for the running of the 32nd event held at the Eugowra Showground last Sunday 10th June.

Throughout the week-end the ploughmen and women harnessed up their magnificent Australian Draught horses for demonstrations and the running of the Golden Plough, Novice, Ladies and Junior events.

Organisers were extremely pleased with the condition of the ground following the recent very welcome rainfall.

Veteran ploughman Wilf Norris harnessed up his magnificent six horse team on Sunday to the delight of all those in attendance.

Mr Norris stated that this is the final time he will be harnessing up a team of this magnitude for a public demonstration.

Pat Norris assisted by her daughters Tricia Ward and Julie Riley gave demonstrations of damper making and also manned the gate, giving free samples of damper with Golden Syrup or jam and cream, to all those who paid at the gate. Kellie Dwyer and Jeanette Lockwood also gave a hand.

The concert held on Saturday evening was run by the Eugowra Pony Club with the chief organiser being Tricia Ward.

The audience was entertained with various items by the Pony Club members, lovely vocal solos by Tamra Heinzel and Annalea Riley, funny skits by Slippery and Tricia Ward, entertaining yarns by Laurie Norris, the novel Wild Colonial Boy puppetry by Anne Bray and Tricia Ward and the wonderful vocals and guitar playing of Eugowra's own country and western singer, Bill Norris.

Matthew Black very capably carried out the MC duties. Matthew, his brother Peter and Laurie Norris gave some very talented displays of whip cracking including the huge bullocky's whip.

Winner of the Golden Plough for 2007 was Kevin Northey of Armidale, 2nd was Chris Chapman of Blayney and 3rd Gaylene Northey of Armidale.

The Novice division was won by Steven Lindsay of Peak Hill, 2nd was Bill Norris of Eugowra and 3rd Demi Chapman of Blayney.

Demi Chapman was the winner of the Ladies division with Leia Chapman 2nd and Liz Bateman of Tullamore 3rd.

Winner of the Junior section was Demi Chapman with Jessica Bull of Armidale2nd and Liz Bateman 3rd.

Organisers extended many thanks to the judges over the week-end, Bruce Coffee of Narromine and Sid Samuels of Moss Vale.
