Mid Lachlan Landcare will combine a national expert on grazing management with the successful example of local producers at its latest field day.
The group has established a strong reputation for its field days, which provide producers with hands on experience, local examples and experts on topics vital for sustainable, profitable agriculture.
It’s latest effort will be held February 20, with special guest Terry McCosker.
McCosker is a well known and respected Grazing Management teacher and facilitator with more than 21 years experience all over Australia and around the world.
He is the owner and principle of Resource Consulting Services (RCS) and his presence at the upcoming field day will provide producers the chance to hear more about grazing management and perennial grasses.
McCosker will focus on giving some common sense, practical advice on how carbon can be increased in soils with the use of grazing management and perennial pastures.
Also on hand will be farm hosts John and Kylie Wood.
They will be sharing their knowledge and experiences on running a high production, high turnover grazing operation on their properties around the Koorawatha/Cowra/Canowindra area.
John and Kylie run a cattle trading operation with the aim of finishing 1500 to to 2000 head of cattle for the feedlot market.
They also have a sheep and lamb operation turning off 1200 lambs into the store lamb market each year.
The Wood family use holistic management principles and grazing management, introducing perennial pasture species suited to their soil types and country.
The upcoming Mid Lachlan Group Field day will be held on February 20, at “Smesto” and “Maroo”, the properties of the Wood family.
The day starts from 12.30pm, including presentations, paddock tour and nibbles.
All you need to bring is a mug, afternoon tea, a chair and questions.
Producers are urged to take advantage of the day to learn more about grazing management and soil carbon.
