Health professionals: use it or lose it

20 Feb, 2008 07:27 AM
If you’re feeling sluggish and unmotivated you can do something about it.

One way to increase your general well being is to attend a healthy lifestyles group in Canowindra.

The program looks at the person as a whole, incorporating a 45-minute low to moderate exercise component and an educational component over a seven-week period.

The exercise section is suited to the individual as everyone has a different capacity and range of movement as well as varying physical capabilities.

The groups can help, even if people need assistance with mobility, such as those using walkers, crutches or walking sticks.

The educational section includes a discussion with a social worker, dietitian, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech pathologist or nurse.

Morning tea is provided following exercise.

During the education section the group is spoken to as a group and people can make a separate appointment with an educator if they need any individual dietary advice or social work assistance.

Entry into the program will be dependant on a doctor’s approval and a medical assessment conducted by a registered nurse.

The program is run over seven weeks on a Friday at Canowindra Memorial Hospital’s physiotherapy department from 9.30am to 11.30am.

For more information please contact healthy lifestyles coordinator Ann Stenhouse on 6344 1314 or the physiotherapy department on 6340 3017 before March 14.
