The first meeting of the Historical Society for 2007 will be held in the RSL Room of the Services Club at 2pm on Wednesday February 28.
The Society celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and a tentative program of special events has been drawn up to commemorate the birthday and highlight what the Historical Society has done for the community of Canowindra and district.
Canowindra is famous for lucerne and plans are to have a special lucerne display in the proposed museum extension.
In keeping with the lucerne theme, an excursion coordinated by president, Muriel Yell, has been planned for Saturday April 14 as follows:
Saturday April 14 - Lucerne, Canowindra's Green Gold, Guided Bus Tour noting properties of Rivers Road, Bangaroo, old Government Horse Stud Farm and Gooloogong Road.
There will be a morning tea stop at one property.
The tour will return to Canowindra for lunch at Old Vic Inn by 1pm.
Depart 8.30am from Gaskill Street near Age of Fishes Museum where cars can park, cost $25 including bus fare, morning tea and lunch to be pre-paid with booking to Muriel Yell, phone 6344 1916.
Tour notes will cost extra.
Write your families lucerne story - Members and others connected with lucerne properties in the district are invited to write down stories of their family and farm.
On Monday April 16 Oberon Garden Club will be visiting Canowindra and the Historical Society is to provide lunch at the museum and conduct a walking tour of Gaskill Street as part of the day's program.
