Di Bird, returns to taste Canowindra this coming long weekend. Yes the goddess of Sultry Jazz is back on Saturday June 7. Di Bird is one of Australia’s outstanding female jazz vocalists. Her show this time is titled “Let’s do it”.
With Di will be American Double bass legend Ed Gaston, brilliant young pianist composer Bill Risby and exciting exotic conga player Fabian Hevia. Ed Gaston (who has played with Sarah Vaughn), started to build the taste Canowindra entertainment legend when Red Hot & Blue first appeared at taste performing solos to rapturous applause in September last year.
A testament to Di’s reputation amongst musos is reflected in the quality of those that accompany her on these gigs. Bill Risby (who comes to taste for the first time) recently accompanied Di on her Tasmanian tour has toured to sell-out crowds in Norway and Japan.
Conga adds a touch of the exotic to the line up with percussionist Fabian Hevia. Fabian is at the top of the list when international performers need additional percussion to join them on tour in Australia.
As reviewer and performer John Morrison promised “..you will never tire of the groove these guys get going.”.... and he is absolutely right.
Red Hot & Blue were voted the most popular band at the 2003 Noosa Jazz Festival. They certainly have lived up to their reputation on past visits to taste Canowindra. The group’s sophisticated interpretation of the swinging tunes made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee along with a selection of Blues and Latin means that they bring something special to all of their performances.
The evening will feature material from both of Di’s CD’s “Red Hot & Blue” and the most recent, “Gypsy in my soul”. Di Bird was last at taste this January.
All tickets must be pre-booked, wine is available at cellar door prices and people can byo beer and mixers.
