Canowindra primary School captains and vice captains will represent the school next month at an upcoming national Young Leaders' Day in Sydney.
Captains Tanisha Whatman and Nick Willson, along with Vice captains Tahlia Pearce and Harry Myers will be inspired by leaders during the
prestigious event at the Superdome in early March.
The object of this event is to provide a unique opportunity for community leaders of the future to listen to, and interact with current leaders in politics, business, sport, community service, media and the arts.
"It is envisaged that by participating in this event that our school leaders will be inspired to contribute to the school, motivated to become great leaders and empowered with practical skills," said school principal, Eric Toole.
"They should also be able to promote themselves as positive role models and develop the skills to help them connect with other students and the wider community."
Although the list of speakers for 2006 has not yet been finalised, previous speakers include Peter Brock, racing car legend, John Eales, rugby union identity, Natalie Cook, Olympic gold medallist, Margaret Court, tennis legend, Justin Langer, Australian opening batter and Louise Sauvage, paralympian. Politicians that have been guest speakers in the past include Peter Beattie, Bob Carr, Natasha Stott Despoja and Bob Hawke. Business arts and media speakers have been such identities as Eddy McGuire, Ian Kiernan, and Nikki Webster.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for these students to acquire skills and knowledge from a great range of community leaders," said Mr Toole.
"I anticipate that not only those students fortunate enough to attend the event will benefit, but also the other students in the school and in the long run, the Canowindra community."
