When Charlie McCarron's car dealership Canowindra Motors sells, it will be the close of many, many years of McCarron family involvement in the town's economic community.
In fact, 100 years worth of involvement.
Last month marked the official anniversary of the arrival of the McCarron patriach who left such a legacy not only on Canowindra but the wider district.
John McCarron and his family arrived in the area as new owners of prominent district farm "Sussex" in April 1907.
Over the decades and generations, the family interests including farming, machinery, stock and station agencies and of course, the motor dealership that has been Charlie's lifeblood for over 50 years.
The story started when John McCarron simply ran out of room on his 300 acre block in Shepparton, Victoria, just after the turn of the century.
Family rumour has it that the bank manager he approached to loan him the money to purchase "Sussex" had a deaf ear until John mentioned his eleven sons.
"That was what really stood our family out - the eleven sons and not one daughter," Charlie said.
"He had the loan pretty quickly after mentioning that."
It took eight of the McCarron boys 18 days to come overland with the family's property and arrive at their new home just west of the township. The farm eventually grew to be several thousand acres. Wheat was the initial focus, with lucerne not a major product until river flat development in the 1920s.
Before long, John's 11 boys - Earnest, Wilfred, David, William, Graham, Gilbert, Finley, Hugh, Robert, Charles and Alec - were soon branching out and establishing their own businesses and families across the district. Long time Orange based stock and station agents McCarron Cullinane is a prime example of another McCarron family offshoot.
Hand in hand with their business involvement across the area was another family trait - a commitment to local government.
"Between my three uncles and myself, we have a combined 70 years of working in local government," explained Charlie.
"My uncle was awarded an OBE for his service to local government, after 40 years with Boree Shire Council.
"David McCarron was also a councillor with Boree, and John McCarron served with Waugoola Shire Council, the precursor to Cowra Shire Council, for many years too."
Charlie's no slouch himself to records.
His brother bought Canowindra Motors in 1949 and in 1959 Charlie took it over completely, giving the business 58 continuous years as a motor dealership.
And a passion for cars and motor dealerships must be in the blood, with Charlie's daughter a top sales manager for prestigious label Jaguar.
However, all three of his children have made their lives and fortunes elsewhere.
Aside from the dealership itself, Charlie has also built up an incredible collection of rare Holden vehicles, which have given him quite a bit of attention over the years.
They, and the business, are now for sale, but only to the right owner.
Charlie doesn't appear to be too regretful and is looking forward to starting a new life.
"It's been my life, although I did do quite a lot of other things too.
"I have known this district all my life, was schooled here, but being here [at the dealership] all week is a commitment I am looking forward to passing by."
