Cabonne Council has expressed concern over the RTA’s proposed speed limit reduction proposal for Cargo Road. The proposal would see the speed limit reduced to 80kph all the way from Orange to Cargo.
Mayor Kevin Duffy said, “While Council is very mindful on country roads and the impact this has on our community, measures taken by any authority needs the support of the community for it to be successful. This support can only be achieved by communication and information sharing. Local knowledge and personal experiences learned by this consultation process can only benefit to the outcome that is reduction in crashes on country roads. Council has asked for this consultation to take place before any decision is made.”
“Cabonne Council has worked closely with the Cargo Road Users and the Cargo Progress Association over the years and has been successful in securing funds to address “black spots” on the Cargo Road. We are continuing to lobby both State and Federal Governments for funding to continue improving the Cargo Road”, Clr Duffy advised.
In recent years Cabonne Council has received over $500,000 for much needed road widening and minor pavement rehabilitation and Council is currently up-grading the intersection of Cargo Road and Edinboro Road, an important link to the Cadia Mine.
Cargo Road provides a vital link, regionally for the neighbouring town of Cowra and Grenfell to Orange and Bathurst and also to the greater Sydney metropolitan area.
The need for efficient, safe transport network requires greater injection of Government funds on the road system.
