Australia is renowned for its ability to produce outstanding people whose contributions benefit the global community.
Dr Grace Warren's unique and outstanding contribution to society as a surgeon, lecturer, counsellor and friend has endeared her to the many thousands of leprosy patients and other people whose lives have been changed by her compassionate work.
A commitment, of almost 50 years, in bringing change to lives affected by leprosy has provided her with the opportunity to rove Asia as a surgeon and lecturer. Often Dr Grace has performed her healing ministry, in many varied conditions where facilities were less than we have in Australia,. Her early days at a leprosy hospital on an island in Hong Kong provided a platform for her later work in Thailand, Korea, Pakistan, Israel, Taiwan, Cambodia and many other countries.
Dr Grace's amazing energy, adaptability to varied working environments and her ability to respond appropriately to individual needs is why she is still called on to resolve all sorts of surgical problems, apply her surgical skill and share her medical knowledge with others throughout the world.
Dr Grace has received many accolades, mostly form her patients and their families. She has been awarded the Order of Australia and the Star of Pakistan and many other citations and awards for her essentially self-taught surgical practice resulting from seeking advice and direction from eminent people in the profession and applying it in her practical style. Today she is internationally recognised as an authority on the care of neuropathic limbs, a problem that affects many Australians with diabetes.
Some may say she has been retired, but when you see her current schedule of overseas and local appointments for Dr Grace it has a different meaning.
Her story is as captivating - the insights into her unique compassionate ministry of healing, the challenges, the sacrifices and the joy will leave a lasting impression, a fragrance of the true values in life, on all who meet and hear her.
Dr Grace Warren is a true ambassador of Australia who inspires us all to reach out and make a difference in this world by investing yourself in others.
She will be sharing her life story and her autobiography in Cowra and Canowindra this week and all are invited to attend.
