Close to 80 people attending a meeting investigating the feasibility of a Canowindra skating venue signals strong support for the project, organisers believe.
Mark Edwards, Canowindra Apex and one of those responsible for the initial meeting, said he and others helping kickstart the project were amazed at the response.
"We were initially expecting 15, to 20 people," Mr Edwards said.
"When we got 80, with not only 30 odd adults and parents, but also a range of kids aged from 19 to 5 or 6 years of age, we knew support was strong.
"One of the concerns at one point was that it might only been age group that were keen - now we know it's not just teenagers who will support the facility."
Mr Edwards said after such a positive first meeting, a second would be held this week to keep the momentum going in the project.
He said a tentative site had been discussed, at the Canowindra Sports ground, adjacent to the basketball courts, with the Canowindra Sports Trust indicating its supporting.
Preliminary discussions have also been held with Cabonne Shire, with the local government authority indicating its support of the creation of such a venue.
Despite the logistics of the task, Mr Edwards said the support at this stage was inspiring.
"One of the first things we said at the meeting was that it would take a couple of years, so don't be expecting a skate park by Christmas, yet no one left".
"Essentially, everyone that was there appears to be in it for the long haul."
The group is already tackling the financial task and Apex has donated a prize for a raffle to start the fundraising.
The meeting this week will discuss further fundraising ideas, and progress to date.
Currently working as a sub committee of Apex, the group will also look at whether a separate committee needs to be formed.
All interested in helping Canowindra realise a dream of a skatepark are welcome to be involved at the next meeting on Wednesday evening, TONIGHT, at 6pm, at the Canowindra Golf Club.
