Men's shed enthusiasts start work on project's home base

24 Jan, 2007 07:31 AM
Plans for a Men's Shed at Canowindra are well under way.

Since a meeting late last year, there has been a Shed committee formed with 18 members.

There's been a working bee held to clean up the old Scout Hall, the Shed's planned site.

"The guys are really interested," said organiser Ann Stenhouse.

"It's gaining a lot of momentum and interest in the town."

Now the newly formed committee are looking for "monetary funding to help us get started.

"We're looking at grants and donations," Ms Stenhouse said.

"We've also received a donations of some paint for the exterior of the shed," she said.

A meeting tonight at the scout hall will decide the opening hours and days of the shed.

The meeting will start at 7pm.

Ms Stenhouse said the project was mainly about "increasing men's self esteem."

"They could do woodwork, talk, whatever they like," said Ms Stenhouse.

She said the shed was about "increasing men's self esteem."

It would particularly focus on older, retired or injured men, and those looking to get out of the house for a while.

"They're still a value to themselves," Ms Stenhouse said.

She said the Shed would get men "looking for support from each other, for each other."

Canowindra's committee members will soon hold a meeting with members of Grenfell, Boorowa, Young and Cootamundra sheds.
