Mental health training courses for the general community will be running in Cowra and Canowindra during early September.
The course covers depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and psychotic disorders and is free of charge to community members or service providers.
Course trainer Di Gill said those in rural Australia are less likely to seek help and often the distance people have to travel for help can be a deterrent.
Ms Gill said course participants will learn to identify mental health issues, and help to get support for those that may suffer from them.
The NSW Health funded Drought Mental Health Assistance Program has been running since 2007 and offers 50-70 courses annually to those in rural Australia.
Program Coordinator Georgia-Lee Pollard said that what happens to local farmers can have a huge effect on the local community.
Farmers can be affected by drought but also now flooding, rural adversity in general as well as climate variability (change) and lack of all types of mental health services, Ms Pollard said.
The two-day Mental Health First Aid Training Course is free of charge and includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea both days.
The course will run at Lets Employment Services in Cowra September 2-3 and at Canowindra Community Health in Canowindra
September 9 and 16, places are still available for either course.
