Michael cooks up a hospitality future

11 Jun, 2008 09:28 AM
TAFE student Michael Wren hopes to one day take on a job in the fast paced hospitality industry.

For the moment, he’s content to study and learn in the kitchens at TAFE, where his enthusiasm and dedication has seen him achieve a Student of the Month award this year.

Michael loves learning to prepare and cook food and being able to experiment with and taste different food types.

He’s studying the Certificate II in hospitality at Cowra TAFE campus, which aims to develop student’s customer service and communication skills, and foster the essentials behind being a kitchen assistant, waiter, cook’s assistant and food and beverage attendant.

Michael’s commitment and motivation is what drew the attention of his teachers for the award.

“He engages in, and is extremely disciplined with his classroom activities. His attendance at class is exemplary,” said teacher, Dianne Johnson.

“He responds to daily challenges with a positive approach and is very well respected by his teachers.”

In the future, Michael hopes to continue further hospitality studies and gain employment in the industry.

Well done I was also from Canowindra and followed a career in hospitality when I left school and ended up working in places like the Ritz Carlton in Double Bay, the ANA hotel in the city. So good luck for the future.
