Premier Morris Iemma has announced a further 59 timber bridges across rural and regional NSW will be upgraded under the third round of the Timber Bridges Partnership.
Mr Iemma made the announcement in the lead up to the NSW Cabinet's visit to the Central West this week.
It follows a $60 million commitment to fund the replacement of timber bridges around the State and comes on top of the 36 bridges already set to be upgraded.
"This is an important partnership between the State Government and local councils to improve infrastructure and road safety in country NSW," Mr Iemma said.
"These bridges are essential links for rural and regional communities, which is why my Government made this $60 million commitment."
"This program will help keep country communities connected while improving safety and reducing maintenance costs for council."
