Musicians to tour schools

31 May, 2006 08:03 AM
St Vincent's College Potts Point musicians are rehearsing feverishly to finalise preparations for their much - anticipated tour of Central West NSW over the upcoming June long weekend.

The 40 excited students, representing the College's Orchestra and Choirs, will be showcasing their talents at a number of primary schools throughout the area. Their first local concert will be held at St Joseph's Eugowra at 10.15am on Thursday 8 June. From there the musicians travel to Canowindra for lunch at the Age of Fishes Museum and then on to their second concert for the day at St Edward's Canowindra at 2.00pm.

The tour continues on to Forbes, Parkes and Narromine before concluding with performances at public venues around Dubbo including the Dubbo Zoo and Wellington Caves.

Tour Director Susan Webber said the tour was not only about giving the students performance opportunities.

"Community is at the heart of our College. We believe that by playing at schools, hospitals, churches and public venues our girls can link with a broader cross - section of the community and give of themselves to others."

"Our day girls are keen to see the places their boarding friends come from, and are hoping to catch up with them on their home turf.

Although 'Vinnies' as it is affectionately known, is a Catholic Girls' day and boarding school and was established in 1858 the music the students perform on tour will not be old-fashioned.

We will be playing everything from the classics to ABBA. The performances will also feature some great individual talents. We are really looking forward to it," Ms Webber said.
