Although initially stalled by wet weather, work in the past few weeks has progressed strongly, with workers estimating the completion in just a few short weeks.
All pool manager Jarrod Strange needs now to complete the good news is stronger visitation to reflect the summer period.
“We hear it’s just a few more weeks,” Jarrod said about the much-anticipated completion date.
“Everyone has been really excited because they can see it being built and progress when they come for a swim at the pool, instead of it being done in winter when it’s much quieter.”
The old amenities block at the pool has undergone a transformation, being gutted, replumbed, rendered and floors re-surfaced.
A roof has been erected over the building, new showers installed and a disabled toilet plus change room created.
The work has been so radical, Jarrod says it hard to imagine where things used to be.
And, even though the toilet and change room facilities have been closed since construction work begun some months ago, pool users have been unaffected due to the provision of transportable amenities.
The works are being undertaken after community groups spent years pushing to see their pool upgraded.
The Canowindra community voted at a community meeting last year to retain the existing shell of their 33 metre pool and convert it into a 25 metre lap pool after a study showed the current pool is not leaking.
Converting the pool to the more standard 25 metre length opens up more possibility for the complex to be used for competition.
Future plans for the complex also include the provision of a new beach entry pool, although funding has yet to be locked in yet.
The Canowindra Pool is open from 10am thru to 6pm at night. Early morning swimming is available, please contact the pool for exact hours on 6344 1264.
