Pay out frustration for Eugowra sawmill business

From Judy Smith

Ron Hay, who is the Managing Director of E& R J Hay at Eugowra, says he is annoyed with the slackness of the State Government over money owing to his company.

When the Government made the decision to lock up the state forests last year they purchased the log quota from E& RJ Hay, which stopped them sawing logs and prevented access to the Brigalow State Forest area.

Mr Hay said their employees were paid out, and 80 per cent of the agreed money paid to his company, with the remaining 20 per cent to be paid after an independent auditor had verified the workers entitlements due to them, had been paid.

Nothing has been heard, and Mr Hay said he assumes that everything is correct as it is a good nine months since all the information required was lodged.

Following several letters to the Primary Industries Minister's office no replies have been received.

Mr Hay stated "I have even had Russell Turner and Dawn Fardell chasing it up for me, but to no avail".

He added "They have all hit a brick wall as the money can't be released until they hear from the independent auditor."

"It's not good enough" Mr Hay declared, "How long do we have to wait".

Orange City Council has approved a DA which E & RJ Hay have lodged for a proposed childcare centre. They propose to lay the foundation stone in April 2008.

The remaining 20 per cent, which is still owed by the government, will hold up proceedings Mr Hay said.

Friends in the childcare industry in Orange had indicated to Mr Hay of the

definite need for a long day care centre as well as before and after school care in the city.

The facility which E & R J Hay propose building will cater for 90 childcare and 40 before and after school places.

The position of the proposed centre, which E & R J Hay plan to build and lease out, is centred in the Waratah Hills Estate adjacent to Waratah Sports ground and parallel to the Northern Distributor.
