Canowindra Pharmacy has been selected to provide a new service to assist people manage their asthma.
It is estimated more than 2.2 million Australians have currently been diagnosed with asthma – around 12 per cent of adults and 16 per cent of children.
The provision of the Pharmacy Asthma Management Services (PAMS) through local pharmacies has previously demonstrated that people with asthma can be effectively supported to better manage their condition.
“We are excited to be providing PAMS as we feel it will contribute to the management of asthma, which is fast becoming a significant health issue in our society,” pharmacist Vicki Grant said.
PAMS is part of a pilot program, being managed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia with support and funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
The pilot program looks at how local pharmacies can improve access to support and assist people with asthma.
“We will be working with local GPs and other health professionals to integrate this service with the patients overall management plan,” Mrs Grant said.
There are only a limited number of ten spots so call the Pharmacy to make an appointment.
“It is important for people with asthma that they have regular check ups and make sure they are on top of their asthma management,” Mrs Grant said.
