Pioneer takes her place at Peoplescape

After months of preparation and research, Canowindra’s contribution to the nationwide Peoplescape exhibition, that of Bessie Robinson, finally took her place on the lawns of Parliament House earlier this month. , Nominated by Dorothy Balcomb, a member of the Canowindra Centenary of Federation committee, Bessie Robinson came to life in the hands of Canowindra High School art teacher Tony Dagg and art students at the school. , The representation of Bessie drew not just on her life specifically, but also on the legacy she left to the town, the community and the wider area., A mixed media representation, the figure includes maps of Canowindra, a landscape painting of the view out to the Nangar Hills, a photo of the town today, and symbols of Bessie’s own contributions, such as street names., At right - Dorothy Balcomb is pictured with Bessie (Elizabeth Robinson) during her starring role in Canberra, where she adorned the lawn with 4,000 others from November 25 to December 4.
