The issue of police numbers assigned to the Canowindra station isn’t as simple as petitioning for more, explained the head of the Cowra station and one of the Canobolas Local Area Command’s highest ranking officers.
Inspector Anthony McLean was not long back from the Acting Superintendent position of the Canobolas LAC.
He was discussing the existence of petitions at Canowindra protesting the loss of Senior Constable Anthony Attard.
Inspector McLean said technically, Canowindra is actually at full strength, with two officers assigned.
An additional officer actually based at Orange was temporarily lent to the station while one of its permanent staff was on long term leave; however, the Orange station is now short at least six officers.
This has resulted in the recall of Sen Con Attard back to Orange.
While Inspector McLean understood how the general public might be confused regarding the numbers of police officers based at Canowindra, there was little that could be done until the situation regarding the station’s permanent officers on roster changed.
He also said the issue of police numbers at the station had not been raised by Cabonne’s mayor.
