Presses stop for a pioneer of print

25 Mar, 2009 02:39 PM
The presses have all gone quiet for longtime newspaper and print stalwart, Peter Heaslip.

Mr Heaslip died suddenly after a short illness on Thursday last week at Canowindra.

He was buried at the Canowindra cemetery on Monday, after a service at St Edward’s Catholic Church.

For decades, ink and paper were a massive part of Mr Heaslip’s life.

Over the years, he had varying involvements with the Cowra Guardian, the Canowindra Star and then the Canowindra News, plus Cumberland Newspapers at Parramatta.

When he sold the Canowindra Star, he kept the print section and continued his strong association with the paper, acting as its agent.

Since closing the print office he enjoyed his years of retirement, particularly fishing trips away.
