The Canowindra SES last night held a training operation in conjunction with local fire brigade members.
The aim of the night was not just to provide training opportunities, but promote and raise awareness of the local SES unit, with the hope of attracting more volunteers.
Local unit controller Greg Ruming said regional managers would be attending the night, plus trainers from NSW Fire brigades.
The major responsibilities for the SES are for flood and storm operations and providing the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state.
This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats.
The SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations.
The SES is made up of individuals from a diverse range of ages, backgrounds and abilities.
There are many roles that volunteers can choose to do including administration, planning, training, field, communication, logistics, media, community education and other support roles.
The local unit currently has less than 10 members and Mr Ruming hoped to encourage more people to be involved.
