Record Kindy numbers sign of a growing town

Record Kindy numbers sign of a growing town

22 Feb, 2012 07:59 AM
Record numbers of Kindergarten students at Canowindra Public School this year have fed the need for an extra class - a first for the school.

Thirty eight Kinder students have started the first school term of 2012, accompanied by not one but two teachers, plus several Teachers Aides.

The record numbers have in turn taken the overall number of classes at the school from 7 to 8, with all but one being a single grade.

Canowindra Public School Principal Eric Toole said the growth in Kindergarten students was a positive sign not just for the school but for the Canowindra community overall.

He attributed the larger student numbers to several reasons – the breaking of the drought creating better job opportunities, the influx to Canowindra of families, the introduction of the Baby Bonus by the Howard government several year ago, and the school’s reputation drawing students from across the area.
