Frustrated shopping for their own new arrival, Troy and Katie Kelly have taken matters into their own hands and discovered a host of other parents keen to rediscover the treasures of the past.
The Kellys have opened a new business in Canowindra - Essentially Child's Play - and are already impressed with the response to their stock.
The colourful store specialises in beautiful, colourful wooden toys, including puzzles, musical instruments, wheely bugs and trikes, doll houses and farm sets, and many, many other items, which harken back to a more creative, handcrafted era.
"Parents love the toys," explained Troy Kelly.
"They are frustrated by computer games and no stimulation of children's minds, just pushing buttons."
Its not just the sturdy, wooden aspect that appeals to the Kellys, but the thought processes that can be stimulated.
Using tricks and clever construction, children can make fireman climb down ladders, chickens peck and mazes unfold. They can make music, climb ladders and use swings.
In just a few weeks since first opening, local support has been really strong, Mr Kelly said, along with visitors discovering their wares.
"People have passed through on their way to Sydney, the Southern Highlands, Victoria, just browsing and have been so impressed they have purchased toys to take with them."
Even adults are not immune to the stimulation of the colour and movement in the bright little shop, with many puzzles and creations walking out the door as stress
relief.
You can discover more for yourself in the bright little shop with toys that go bop at Essentially Child's Play in Gaskill St Canowindra.
The shop currently opens Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and Saturday, 9am to 12 noon.
