With only days until NSW Wine Week kicks off on Sunday, March 1 2009 its time to start making plans for this week-long wine celebration in Sydney.
Promising to be even bigger and better than last year, The Sydney Morning Herald New South Wales Wine Week begins with a bang on Sunday March 1st with Sydney Cellar Door in Hyde Park.
Sydney Cellar Door is a unique opportunity for consumers to sample wines from more than 100 wineries from NSW’s 14 wine regions in a single day.
An expected 20,000 people will converge on Hyde Park South on Sunday March 1, with NSW wineries from all over the state travelling to the big smoke to create the biggest and best outdoor wine event the emerald city has ever seen.
While wine retains the starring role at Sydney Cellar Door there will be an equally impressive selection of quality food and produce on offer from regional producers and Sydney restaurateurs to complement each tipple. Wine and food lovers will be kept amused with all-day entertainment, adding to the festival atmosphere.
Tom Ward of Swinging Bridge said the inaugural event last year was fantastic and attracted 15,000 people to Hyde Park.
The Cowra region will have variety of wines from Windowrie, Wallington, Mulyan and Spring Ridge on show however Swinging Bridge will be offering their Rose, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
”Wine week is important to our region as it gives us a chance to show Sydney people who we are. Our biggest potential market is on our doorsteps and we need to communicate to this market that our wines compete on the world stage and have achieved great success over the last couple of years,” Mr Ward said.
Chair of the NSW Wine Strategy, Tiffany Nugan, says the program is designed to appeal to wine lovers at all levels:
“NSW Wine Week is about having fun and enjoying NSW Wine over a week long festival. It is an integral component of the NSW Wine Strategy and building awareness and representation of NSW Wine within our home-state. Through NSW Wine Week, we hope to kick-start resurgence in NSW Wine throughout the city and beyond.”
