Retirement village project to proceed to stage 1

19 Apr, 2006 07:57 AM
As chairman of this exciting community project, it is my pleasure to announce that after many years of red tape, knock backs, changed block sizes, different locations and four and a half years we are about to progress to stage one of the project.

This will involve the purchase of the railway land behind the museum and Age of Fossils buildings.

A major step forward after so long in planning. This land will be handed over to us after purchasing it with council loans within the next two months, a major clean up of the block will then take place to remove some rail contaminates.

Planning is already underway, we have acquired the services of our local solicitor Luke Clarke to help set up the committee constitution and help with any legal points that I'm sure will arise.

Our object is to have available plans for people to look at before the end of June this year. With building to commence soon after. Purchases off plan will be an option for those not wishing to miss out on this wonderful concept.

We plan to build depending on design 10 x 2 bedroom units and 5 x 1bedroom units, with plans that some of the one bedroom units will be available for rent. Units will on a common ground with private courtyards available at the rear of each unit and maintained gardens and common areas with room for visitor parking and hopefully a games room that will be available for all residents to share.

It is anticipated that this committee will continue to overseer the project until all the units are sold or rented. A community style self managing committee will then be appointed to operate the village.

This is going to be a community project managed, build and maintained by local people for local people.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday the 6th April at 7.30 pm in the Nangar room of the RSL. It is hoped that prospective purchasers and local trades people who want to be involved in this project will attend.
