St Edward's beloved Sister Pat Ryan rubbed shoulders and shared a cup of tea with some of the stars of Australia's rugby league code last week.
Players and coaching staff from NRL league side, the Canterbury Bulldogs, presented the long time fan with a special autographed picture and supporter's flag when they took time out to visit St Edward's School in Canowindra last Thursday.
The special visitors included Andrew Ryan, Hazem El Masri, Chris Armit and coach Steve Folkes.
Their visit was part of a promotional tour for the side while in the central west, also visiting schools in Cowra and hosting various skills clinics.
The 71 year 'young' Josephite nun is believed to have devoted more than a few prayers to her beloved Bulldogs. Over the years, Sister has received letters of support from past Bulldog greats Peter Moore and Steve Mortimer.
Her association with the game stretches over decades, having successfully coached primary rugby league teams at various Catholic school posts she has held across the Bathurst diocese.
"Sister Pat is a dedicated supporter of the Bulldogs," explained St Edward's principal, Ken McNamara.
"It was really special for Sister Pat and the students to have these players and coaches take time out to visit us."
The visit to the school was more than a specific rugby league promotion, but a broader attempt to encourage children to be active and become involved in sport.
"During their visit they gave the children advice on healthy eating, being active and the benefits of participating in team sports," Mr McNamara said.
"They also provided insight into the level of training they undergo as part of their sport, and what is expected of them being professional sportsmen."
It wasn't all serious though, with a few autographs and some goal kicking displays making their way into the Canowindra visit.
