Cargo foster mum Rhonda Ward will be granted an honour usually reserved for royalty and native animals - her face will soon adorn a limited edition postage stamp.
Ms Ward has been chosen to represent Cabonne shire on a Australia Post Australia Day commemorative stamp.
To say she was speechless would be an
understatement.
“I honestly thought someone was pulling my leg,” Ms Ward said.
“It’s great honour - I’m flabbergasted.”
Ms Ward was named Cargo Citizen of the Year as recognition of 22 years worth of
foster-parenting.
Ms Ward and husband Don have fostered so many children they can not remember how many it is.
“It has been heaps, we lost count long ago.”
The stamp will be released as a very limited edition.
Australia Post asked the council to consider which of its Australia Day award winners it would like to represent the shire - Ms Ward was an obvious choice.
“It’s just her devotion to supporting others in the community who are less fortunate than all of us,” Mayor Kevin Duffy said.
“She was just a stand-out at the Australia Day awards this year.”
