Rural stories in print

There are hundreds of positive stories floating around the bush for people with the right kind of eyes.

Author Marg Carroll recently launched her second book, Reinventing the Bush, in Molong to a surprising crowd of around 300 people.

Her first book, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives is now in its fourth reprint and features a similar series of stories about the lives, trials and successes of regional people.

“I think the good news stories of regional Australia need to be told,” Marg said.

“There are plenty of them about, it's just a matter of looking.”

Reinventing the Bush features the stories of a pair of young Molong women whose lifelong friendship has been affected by cancer, a young Aboriginal man from Queensland who at the age of 19 took over leadership of a 5000 strong community as well as another young man from Mildura who has dedicated his life to river conservation.

The Molong launch on Friday, February 8, attracted a huge crowd and surprised Marg by selling out 260 copies almost immediately.

It has also been moving quickly from ABC Bookshops, she said.

Marg has set up a Reinventing the Bush donation account to help those working towards community development, to which a share of the books profits will be dedicated.
