The Noel Cislowski evening of humour and Australian poetry at taste Canowindra has proved a triumph of tourism marketing strategy.
Of the 56 people attending the sell out performance only 4 were Canowindra residents, 44 of those attending came to Canowindra specifically for the show and of those 15 arrived the previous Thursday, not leaving until the following Monday.
More than $2000 worth of artworks were purchased by the visitors from local galleries, with the visitors spending freely at many other local businesses, including eateries, gift shops and accommodation houses.
Taste Canowindra co-owner Bob Craven said, "it is truly gratifying to see a theatre restaurant event that was targeted at Sydney people could pull an audience so effectively, the efforts of Canowindra ex-patriots living in Sydney contributed enormously to the success.
"More than two thirds of the visitors came from Sydney, with the balance coming from Parkes, Bowral & Cowra."
The two performers donated their fees to Canteen adding $600 to the charities coffers.
Celebrated filmmaker and producer Tom Cowan will open an exhibition of still photos at taste Canowindra early next month. As a special treat Cowan, who will be present at the opening, will introduce a special screening of his captivating film "Orange Love Story", made in the Central West only a few years ago.
Cowan's latest stills exhibition was shot while he was in India last year, the work captures a busy Bangalore street at sunset.
Cowan's exhibition opens on August 4, at taste Canowindra. For more details contact 6344 2332.
