Much activity has been occurring at the Canowindra showground lately as the Sportshear committee makes the new shearing shed ready for this year's show on September 22 and 23.
Since Dean Neville, of Kitome, kindly donated the new shed in memory of his father, it has taken a while to get to this stage.
However it is now almost ready to go and a sportshear competition will be held on Saturday September 23 at this year's Show.
Dean Neville will officially open the shearing shed in the lunch break of the shearing.
The Sportshear committee is looking for sponsors for the event as a Sportshear competition involves four sections in the shearing, open, senior, intermediate and novice while there is also an open and novice section in the wool handling
event.
Sponsors are needed to encourage entrants and the more entrants entered the better the spectacle for all spectators.
A Sportshear competition encourages shearing excellence with the emphasis on quality as well as speed, with the shearers who shear cleanly and quickly being the eventual winners.
Competition in the shearing field also encourages learner shearers and tips from the more experienced shearers are used to advance quality across the spectrum and keep more learners in an industry which needs all of them.
The competition usually lasts most of the day giving plenty of time for spectators to see the experts in action.
If anyone wants to help either on the day with the running of the competition or prior to Show day in getting the shed completely up to standard could you please give Phil Balcombe (63640273) or Stephen Russell (6344 1952) a ring and they can get you organised.
