Canowindra has launched a new marketing campaign aimed at attracting more tourist dollars into the town.
The new Canowindra brochure promotes the area with the slogan "simple country pleasures" and will be placed at tourism information centres throughout the region.
It highlights local accommodation and attractions and, according to Tourism NSW western area manager Patricia Wilkinson, gives people more reason to stop in Canowindra.
"Tourism contributes significantly to rural economies," she said.
"It's critical to provide a compelling reason for people to visit, whether it's for an event, or capturing people in transit," she said.
The brochure was put together as a whole town marketing tool to be used in regional visitor information centres in Forbes, Parkes, Dubbo, Wellington, Cowra, Orange and Bathurst.
Mrs Wilkinson said the brochure would also give Canowindra residents more information to promote their town with.
"Visiting friends and relatives are forming a large share of visitors to the region and locals can act as ambassadors for their town and make sure their visitors know what's on offer," she said.
The brochure was launched yesterday at the Age of Fishes Museum.
Museum manager Fiona Ferguson said the Progressing Canowindra Team recognised the importance of promoting Canowindra to potential visitors.
"The short break market is really important, people want to get out of Sydney and they've done the mountains and they're trying things further away," she said.
"We can offer a short break with great food, entertainment and art, all within three hours of Sydney. We want to encourage people to stay here longer and explore further."
The brochure was funded by local businesses and matched dollar for dollar by Cabonne Council.
