Skate parks are all the rage and Canowindra have plans in the pipeline to get an official Skate Park up and running by the end of the year.
Skate Park committee secretary Anne Traves believes without the support of the community the much needed Skate Park would not go ahead.
“Everyone has gotten behind this idea and we have raised $20,000. We need to raise another $10,000 then the Cabonne Council will match our $30,000.”
The latest businessman to donate to the committee is Charlie McCarron of Canowindra Motors.
“Charlie collected the takings from his old car tours and gave the money to us. We are so very thankful to him,” Ms Traves said.
Charlie believes getting the kids off the street is a good thing for the community. “If this is what the community wants and the kids will use it then it is a good thing and I am happy to support it.”
The committee is still searching for grants and will apply to the Department of Sport and Recreation. “We need $130,000 all up. The Skate Park will make sure the kids are in a safe environment and the exercise is only of benefit to them,” Ms Traves said.
The children of Canowindra have been very involved in the project by selling raffle tickets, collecting prizes for the raffle draw and attending Skate Park meetings.
